I found your site from a link on Desert Dog after I read about it in the paper. Great site and I will be sure to visit the memorial the next time I am downtown. The dogs deserve to be recognized.

I was sad to hear of the death of a Mesa K9 today.  I will be making a donation in Leon's name.  My sympathies to Officer LaFontaine and the entire Mesa Police Department.

My sister (in Gilbert) just notified me of yet another fallen K9, John Lafontaine's Leon. We are all so sorry to hear of his death in the line of duty. These selfless partners bring honor and joy to their handlers every day, but seldom does the community recognize the nature of their supreme sacrifice. Our thoughts and prayers go out to John and all his brothers in this time of loss.

After reading todays blog from the wife of the K-9 Officer from Chandler, I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family. Anyone who has lost a family pet member, understands your loss and feels your grief. These dogs are not just officers who protect us daily - but they are truley members of our families.

My name is Rico. . . .

And I was here to protect, Yes, I was here to put my life on the line and serve you;

My name is Rico. . . .

Proud, A downed officer, Yes, a dearly missed family member now;

But remember the glint in my wizened eyes, -Least you forget. . .-When I took down my first subject- Yes, please remember that professional grin that creased my triumphant jowls;

My name is Rico, And I shall continue to watch honorably from above. . . .

Rico's death was a senseless act. Didn't the truck driver yield upon seeing the patrol car's flashing lights? That truck driver killed an officer of the law. Human or canine, It doesn't matter. Rico was an officer of the law. Do right by Rico. 8/21/07

With sincerely heartfelt pangs for your loss,

D. Dacher

I was visiting Scottsdale & made a stop at Wesley Bolin Park. I found the K-9 Memorial. Being a K-9 Guardian myself I was very touched to see that our partners have a memorial in recognition of their sacrifice. They are as important to us as human partners are to others.

It is a beautiful memorial. Thank you for your remembrance of our partners who truly gave their all.

What amazingly brave dogs -- their handlers too! Some of those stories about how these courageous canines fought crime and how they gave their lives in the name of justice...well, it brought tears to my eyes.
